Halloween Contest

Calling all Halloween writers! Win a $50 iTunes gift card and become a published author!

It’s time for the annual News-O-Matic Spooky Story Contest! The writing contest for kids promotes literacy and storytelling — while getting kids excited in the Halloween spirit. Enter the contest and have kids read the story from across the globe!


WHO: There are TWO writing contests! One is for students 10 years old or younger. The other is for students between the ages of 11 and 14. This contest is open to children in any country in the world.

WHAT: Write a spooky story about Halloween! All submissions must be original work. Stories MUST not be more than 250 words in length. (Longer stories will not be read.) There is no charge to enter, so submit as many stories as you’d like! Submit alone or submit as part of a group. Students may also choose to submit a poem.

WHEN: All entries must be submitted by 11:59 P.M. (ET) on  October 20. Winners will be announced the following week.

HOW: Send your entry at press4kids.com/halloween. Be sure to include your name, a guardian’s e-mail address, and a name for your story.

WHY: Two grand prize winners will be published in a News-O-Matic article. (There will be one for each age range: 10 and younger and 11 to 14. Each will win a $50 iTunes gift card!

*All entrants will receive a News-O-Matic certificate just for entering!
